Whew! This trailer is something! Universal Pictures dropped the trailer for The Invisible Man today and it will put you through the psychological ringer.

Starring Elisabeth Moss and written, directed and executive produced by Leigh Whannell (Saw), The Invisible Man follows Cecilia (Moss) who is trapped in an abusive relationship with a brilliant scientist. Cecilia escapes the relationship with the help of friends and goes into hiding because he is the kind of controlling abuser that will never let her go.

The husband, played by Oliver Jackson-Cohen, commits suicide. He leaves her 5 million dollars with a caveat. She must prove that she is mentally stable. However, Cecilia knows him all too well and thinks this is a hoax. She doesn’t think he’s dead and her life begins to unravel as she is stalked by her husband who has succeeded in making himself invisible. No one believes her and she begins to lose her mind while trying to escape him once more. He is getting his final revenge for her escaping. What a jerk.

The Invisible Man trailer is truly disturbing and even more upsetting because the abuse is so real. I think this will be a tough one for some folks to sit through – not because it looks like a terrible movie but because it looks so well done, grounded and horrifying. Moss’ performance in this trailer is extremely good and unnerving.

The Invisible Man also stars Harriet Dyer, Aldis Hodge and Storm Reid. It’s a Jason Blum vehicle with Blumhouse Productions and Goalpost pictures producing in association with Nervous Tick for Universal Pictures.

The Invisible Man hits theaters February 28, 2020.
