Well this is an interesting development. About a week ago, Ed Skrein had been cast in the upcoming Hellboy reboot, Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen. He was going to take on the role of Benjamin Daimio, a former Marine with one hell of a facial scar. However, things have changed.
Hollywood has had an issue with whitewashing characters, particularly those of Asian decent. So when Skrein was cast in a role with mixed Asian roots, the internet lit up. However, instead of sweeping it under the rug, Skrein has addressed the problem head on – he’s quit. In a statement released on his Twitter, he addresses the trend and how he must do “what is right”. You can see his full statement below.

While the character is mixed, it appears that he wants to keep integrity. And we cannot in the slightest blame him for that. And it is disappointing that he won’t be in the film (at least for now), but he stood up for what he believed in. Fingers crossed this trend continues and we finally get more equality on the screen.
What do you think of his decision? Let us know! Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more movie news! Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen currently has no release date.
