We are nearly a month away from the official release of Paramount Pictures’ Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. The upcoming action-adventure film is based on the highly popular TTRPG by Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, Dungeons & Dragons. The latest clip is a nice nod to how the film will tie in many aspects of the tabletop game’s nuances, like spellcasting and even more – messing those spells up. Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley direct the film from a screenplay by Goldstein, Daley and Michael Gilio. The original story comes from Chris McKay and Gilio.
The new clip for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves shows Simon’s (Justice Smith) ability to cast spells that let one speak with the dead. Now, like in the tabletop game, there are rules to this spell, like only being able to ask five questions. And who would you let ask those questions? The bard, of course. So, we get to watch Chris Pine‘s Edgin chat up the nice dead dude.
But, like with any Dungeons and Dragons game, there are some complications. What Edgin soon learns is that those five questions go fast, especially when the dead guy doesn’t care who he is actually talking to. It’s a great lesson for the next time your home game needs to discuss something with the dead. The clip is short but is a great example of how Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is trying to balance the serious fantasy adventure with humor.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves hits theaters March 31, 2021. Check out the brand-new clip below. What questions would you ask a corpse? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
