The Dune cast just added another A-list actor to the roster. Josh Brolin is in talks to join the highly anticipated film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brolin will play the Atreides swordsman Gurney Halleck. Brolin returns to the big screen in Avengers: Endgame on April 26.

Dune tells the story of battle for power of the one element that controls the entire universe, the Spice. The noble family of House Atreides is sent to the desert planet Arrakis to oversee Spice production. The Emperor Shaddam IV and rival family House Harkonnen betray the Atreides family, destroying their house and leaving them for dead. Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) and his mother Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) survive and thus begins a revolution.

Gurney Hallack is Paul’s weapons teacher and a Swordmaster of the Atreides household. Paul and Jessica assumed everyone in their household perished. After the fall of House Atreides, Paul finds Gurney fighting for the Harkonnes.  He brings Gurney back to the family and into his uprising with the Freman. Sir Patrick Stewart played Gurney in David Lynch‘s 1984 adaptation. Stewart’s Halleck was a skilled musician and a sarcastically stern warrior.

Denis Villeneuve‘s Dune cast includes Stellan Skarsgård Dave Bautista and Charlotte Rampling. Zendaya, Oscar Isaac and Javier Bardem are in talks to join the cast.

Villeneuve will produce with Mary Parent, and Cale Boyter, with Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, Thomas Tull, and Kim Herbert serving as executive producers. Villeneuve is directing and co-writing the script with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts.

The Dune reboot will begin production in Budapest and Jordan later this spring.
