Still of Timothee Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson in Dune.

It begins. On Monday, Dune fans were blessed with a slew of new character posters, and it truly felt like Christmas in July. The official Twitter account for the Warner Bros. epic shared the said posters featuring eight main characters.

Now, the star-studded, Denis Villeneuve-helmed flick has suffered a series of setbacks due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. Initially, the film was slated for release on November 20, 2020. It was first pushed back to December 2020, followed by two more subsequent delays.

Dune follows the journey of young Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) as he leads a bevy of nomadic tribes in “a battle to control the desert planet Arrakis.” It’s a film adaptation of the popular 1965 sci-fi novel by author Frank Herbert. The project was adapted into a feature in 1984, which starred Kyle MacLachlan as Paul. In addition, there was a three-part miniseries released in 2000 bearing the same name.

Back in 2008, Paramount acquired the film rights for a new adaptation of Dune with Peter Berg set to direct. However, the project was dropped in March 2011. Fast forward to November 2016 — Dune is scooped up by Legendary Pictures. The company now has film and TV rights for Herbert’s masterful classic.

Below, you can take a gander at the new character posters. Dune stars Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Josh Brolin as Gurney, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Jason Mamoa as Duncan Idaho and Stellan Skarsgård as The Baron. Watch the Spice flow when the movie hits theaters on October 22, 2021 with a concurrent release on HBO Max.
