Empire Magazine released the latest photo for Denis Villeneuve‘s Dune. The photo features Timothée Chalamet as protagonist Paul Atreides and his mentor Gurney Halleck, played by Josh Brolin. The two are balancing on an airborne ornithopter. Halleck holds on to Paul while Paul is trying to get a good look at the deserts of Arrakis.
Based on Frank Herbert‘s novel Dune, the film is about a young hero caught in the middle of a political battle involving his father’s house and his mother’s religion. The story follows Paul’s journey to the desert planet Arrakis, where Paul has an awakening of sorts.
Villeneuve tells Empire. “It’s Paul’s first contact with the deep desert, where he’s mesmerized by it. He has a strange feeling of being home. There’s a lot of action at this specific moment, and [it’s] one of the scenes in the movie that I’m starting to get pretty proud of.”
The photo is a part of Empire’s Celebration of Cinema issue, out this Thursday May 14. The special issue is a tribute to the power of film, and the game changing moviemakers that continue to evolve the medium in thrilling ways. So far, Dune looks like it will be quite a game changer.
Dune also stars Oscar Isaac and Rebecca Ferguson as Paul’s parents. Zendaya as his love interest. Jason Momoa, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Javier Bardem as more of Paul’s mentors. Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, andDavid Dastmalchian of House Harkonnen. As well as Charlotte Rampling, Chang Chen, and Sharon Duncan-Brewster in key roles in Paul’s story.
Dune is set to premiere in theaters on December 18, 2020.
