Bautista was announced as having been cast in the Denis Villeneuve Dune reboot back in the beginning of this year. But his role in the film was kept under wraps. Rumors swirled about Bautista possibly playing the villainous role, and now it’s official.
Bautista is stepping away from his familiar “good-guy” persona in the Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers movies as Drax the Destroyer by taking on this new role. Rabban Harkonnen is a thoroughly unlikeable character, if still a big dumb guy. Though Rabban Harkonnen may be a small role in the original Frank Herbert novel, there is speculation that with at least one sequel coming, Bautista may have ample opportunity to show us his bad-guy chops.

Bautista joins heavy-hitting actors Javier Bardem (Stilgar), Josh Brolin (Gurney Halleck), Timothée Chalamet (Paul Atreides), Rebecca Ferguson (Lady Jessica) and Stellan Skarsgård (Baron Vladimir Harkonnen). Dune is set to drift into theaters November 20, 2020.
