That’s right. Dune has its Paul Atreides and that person is Timothée Chalamet! Chalamet is in final talks to star in the upcoming adaptation of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi series, directed by Denis Villeneuve. Deadline reported, Monday.
Chalamet is coming off of an Oscar nomination for Call Me By Your Name, and Villeneuve is taking on Dune after his hit sequel, Blade Runner 2049. Chalamet will likely give us a very different version of Atreides than Kyle MacLachlan did. But, he is exactly the kind of brooding smolder Villeneuve likes to work with. It’s a match made on Arrakis.
Villeneuve has been open about his Dune fandom. And, that paired with the fact that he is a director known for tone, aesthetic, and recently, sci-fi… he’s a very exciting pick to helm this project. Similarly, Chalamet, though young, has proven himself a force to be reckoned with on the big screen, is a rising star and could really bring something new to the well-loved universe of Dune.

There are still so many questions to be answered about this new Dune film. Who will play Feyd-Rautha and Lady Jessica? What will the rebooted sand worms look like? Will Weezer do covers of the full Toto soundtrack? And, how much spice will it take for Timothée Chalamet to go full Kwisatz Haderach? Soon, we will know. But, too much knowledge never makes for simple decisions. One thing we know for sure… the spice must flow.
