Disney‘s newest live-action adaptation, directed by Tim Burton, takes on the big task of bringing Dumbo to life. A new poster teased the first trailer due to arrive during the Country Music Awards on Wednesday night, and we have both for you below!
The poster is the underside view of a big top tent with a soaring baby elephant front and center. The circus crowd cheers him on and dotted throughout the crowd are the main figures in the new movie. From Dumbo’s caretaker Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his children, Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finley Hobbins), to aerial artist Collette Marchant (Eva Green), ring master Max Medici (Danny DeVito), and entertainment entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton), all eyes are on the flying pachyderm.
As for the trailer, it reintroduces the 1941 classic with plenty of nods to the animated feature. The traveling circus welcomes a newborn elephant and the Farrier children introduce themselves to the little one and bring along a small cage full of circus mice – one of which is dressed up as a ring master, just like the animated film’s Timothy Q. Mouse. Joe gets down face-to-face with Dumbo and gently blows a feather in his pen – a nod to the crow’s feather from the classic. The two blow it back and forth until Dumbo snorts it and sneezes, releasing his big ears, exactly as he does when the stork delivers him to Jumbo in the original movie. While there are plenty more references (yes, there are pink bubble elephants, too!), there is also new content. The film expands on Dumbo’s original tale, and a little flying elephant is a priceless commodity. Dreamland owner V.A. Vandevere woos Max Medici, wanting Dumbo for his own amusement park circus, which looks insanely gorgeous.

Circus owner Max Medici (Danny DeVito) enlists former star Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his children Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finley Hobbins) to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when they discover that Dumbo can fly, the circus makes an incredible comeback, attracting persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton), who recruits the peculiar pachyderm for his newest, larger-than-life entertainment venture, Dreamland. Dumbo soars to new heights alongside a charming and spectacular aerial artist, Colette Marchant (Eva Green), until Holt learns that beneath its shiny veneer, Dreamland is full of dark secrets.
Dumbo flies into theaters March 29, 2019.
