Class 5

Attention, students of Coal Hill Academy! Pop quiz time. What is scaly, quite large and breathes fire? Don’t worry, I won’t fail you should you answer incorrectly. The answer is…drum roll please…DRAGONS! Yes, we’re now introducing dragons into the lore of the Whoniverse. I find this perfectly acceptable. In this exclusive trailer for the second episode of Class, we see a dragon unleashed on Coal Hill. Ram (Fady Elsayed), still reeling from the events of the season premiere, is keen on taking on the dragon solo. However, his newfound mates are hellbent on lending a hand (or eight, technically).

Now, Ram suffered quite a lot in the pilot. He was attending the autumn prom with his girlfriend Rachel (Anna Shaffer). Our gang was already on high alert due to the threat of the Shadow Kin. Ram would be periodically watching his shadow, as well as Rachel’s. Suddenly while en route from the bathrooms, the leader of the Shadow Kin, Corakinus, stabs Rachel through the heart in his quest to locate Charlie (Greg Austin). She immediately dissolves, her blood spurting all over Ram. It doesn’t get more traumatic than that. Oh, wait…

Later, while Ram is fighting Corakinus, fueled by revenge, he loses half of his leg. Yes, he lost his girlfriend and became am amputee in one fell swoop. That’s enough to mess anyone up. Thankfully, The Doctor (Peter Capaldi) came to the rescue and reattached a brand new leg for Ram. It may not be an entirely human leg (it’s definitely not), but it will do in a pinch.

So, back to the trailer. We see Ram having a difficult time coming to terms with what happened in the pilot. Understandably so, of course. To make matters worse, a dragon shows up, and not even a cool one. He actually looks quite frightening. Charlie reminds Ram that he doesn’t have to face the monsters alone, that The Doctor instructed they all fight together. Ram brushes him off, saying he can handle it all himself. There’s oodles of blood and plenty of gore, as this dragon is nothing but brutal. Later in the trailer, we see what appears to be the principal getting his head caved in by a giant dragon foot! Might have to start putting up the “Principal Wanted” Craigslist ads.

I was pleasantly surprised with the pilot, and I hope Class continues to surprise me (in a good way). Honestly, I want to attend this school, outlandish alien monsters and all. As long as I get my periodic visits from the Man in the Blue Box…

Check out the trailer for “The Coach with the Dragon Tattoo” below, my friends. May it tide you over till next week. Enjoy at your peril!

Class airs Saturdays at 10pm on your BBC America affiliate.
