Downton Abbey invites you to a royal event this September. The first trailer for the highly anticipated spin-off is here with a new poster.
In the trailer, Edith (Laura Carmichael) returns to Downton with her family, but without any staff. It’s 1927 so no staff is a modern people thing. The house is stirred up when Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville) gets a letter that the King and Queen of England are visiting Downton Abbey.
Mary (Michelle Dockery) takes charge of making sure everything is in tip top shape. She is also thinking of making a change as she tells Anna (Joanna Froggat) that she’s might be leaving Downton. To which, Anna replies that Downton is the heart of the community and Mary is the heart of Downton. Very true. Mary realizes she needs help. If you remember, that’s a very hard thing for Mary to admit. So she asks a retired Carson (Jim Carter) for help. Carson comes home just in time to receive the King and Queen.

Fans have been waiting since 2015 to return to Downton. I’m most excited for Dame Maggie Smith. The Dowager Countess is as feisty as ever and her long standing frenemy Mrs. Crawley (Penelope Wilton) is there to keep her on her toes. I love these ladies.
Downton Abbey also stars Elizabeth McGovern, Allen Leach, Robert James-Collier, Imelda Staunton, Tuppence Middleton, Matthew Goode, Brenden Coyle, Phyllis Logan, Sophie McShera, and Lesley Nichol,
Julian Fellowes created Downton Abbey for television and produces the film with Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge. Michael Engler directed the film. Watch the trailer below.
Downton Abbey debuts in the U. S. on Sept. 20, 2019.
