The Downton Abbey film we’ve all been waiting for is just around the bend.  A Downton teaser was released Friday, and though we see no faces, it certainly does its job.  What a tease!

We learn very little from the teaser.  There are no faces clearly seen and no dialogue.  But it’s clear that the staff is getting ready for visitors at the Crawley estate.  Our hunch is that “visitors” refers to both the viewers and new characters.  There are several shots of the manor house, and the title cards serve one purpose; to herald the return of the world that we’ve fallen in love with.

The only specific information we get is in the end of the teaser, when all of the returning characters are listed.  It is notable and charming that only character names are mentioned.  The glory goes to the story and the characters, not the actors from the show.

The characters we’ll see include Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville), Lady Grantham (Elizabeth McGovern), Lady Mary Talbot (Michelle Dockery), Lady Hexham (Laura Carmichael), The Dowager Lady Grantham (Dame Maggie Smith), Lady Merton (Penelope Wilton), Tom Branson (Allen Leech), Mr. Carson (Jim Carter), Mr. Barrow (Rob-James Collier), Mrs. Hughes (Phyllis Logan), Mr. Bates (Brendan Coyle), Mrs. Bates (Joanne Froggatt), Mrs. Patmore (Lesley Nicol) , Mr. Molesly (Kevin Doyle), Daisy Mason (Sophie McShera) and Ms. Baxter (Raquel Cassidy).

It has been reported that Imelda Staunton, Geraldine James, Simon Jones, David Haig, Tuppence Middleton, Kate Phillips, and Stephen Campbell Moore have joined the cast.

Downton Abbey will premiere in theaters on September 20, 2019.
