We have some more brilliant casting news! According to Deadline, actor Dominic Monaghan is joining the galaxy far, far away in Star Wars: Episode IX. Who else is screaming?! The actor best known for The Lord of the Rings and Lost will be joining the already large cast!

Sadly we haven’t learned anything about his character. So we don’t know if he’s a member of the Resistance, The First Order, neither, or even playing a droid. But what we do know is that this is the second team up from Monaghan and director/writer JJ Abrams. That’s exciting, right? Maybe not but it’s exciting to have yet another new actor cast in the final film of the trilogy. He joins the already announced Keri Russell, Naomi Ackie, and Richard E. Grant for the newbies.

Frankly, I’m excited. I haven’t seen him in any big pictures lately so it’ll be good to see him again. That may be biased talking as I have a soft spot for his performance as Merry in The Lord of the Rings. Regardless, speculation as to what his character is begins! Maybe he’ll be attempting an alien role as Simon Pegg did. Though I can see him joining the Resistance and helping out in their last stand against The First Order. We’ll have to wait and see what the news brings in the coming days.

What do you think of the casting? Are you excited Dominic Monaghan is joining the franchise? Let us know! Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more Star Wars updates. Episode IX has begun filming and will soar into theaters December 20th, 2019.
