According to a website called Tracking Board, AMC may have found their Jesse Custer in actor Dominic Cooper for their in-development television series Preacher.
You may remember Dominic Cooper from such productions as “Captain America: The First Avenger,” where he played Howard Stark and Agent Carter, where he reprised his role as Howard Stark.
According to the report, no offers have been made officially but they are “hearing that he’s the top pick to star as Jesse Custer.”
Preacher, as a comic, written by Garth Ennis and drawn by Steve Dillon, follows a tough Texas preacher (Jesse Custer) who is somehow endowed with “the Voice of God,” allowing him to make anyone do anything he ever says — literally anything he says. If he tells you to count all the sand on a beach, you cannot help but do that, even if you don’t want to, you have to, because the voice of god said to.
AMC’s official synopsis of the show is:
Preacher follows Reverend Jesse Custer, a tough Texas preacher who has lost his faith, and has learned that God has left Heaven and abandoned his responsibilities. He finds himself the only person capable of tracking God down, demanding answers, and making him answer for his dereliction of duty. Accompanying Jesse on his journey is his former girlfriend and a friendly vampire who seems to prefer a pint in the pub to the blood of the innocent. On his tail is one of the most iconic bad guys in print – an immortal, unstoppable killing machine named the Saint of Killers —a western lone gunman archetype whose sole purpose is to hunt and kill Jesse.
Preacher is being developed for AMC by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad).
The Preacher pilot is being produced for the summer of 2015, to come out in 2016 should it be picked up.
