Doctor Who season 12 is hurtling toward us for a 2020 release.  Jodie Whittaker will return as everyone’s favorite time lord, but there’s some new blood behind the scenes.

Showrunner Chris Chibnall has brought in three new, notable writers to pen episodes for season 12.  Nina Metivier (The A-List), Charlene James (A Discovery of Witches), and Maxine Alderton (The Worst Witch) have all written their inaugural Doctor Who episodes this season.

The new writers joined Vinay Patel (Murdered By My Father), Ed Hime (Skins), and Pete McTighe (Wentworth) on season 12, making the writers room evenly split between men and women… not including head writer, Chibnall.  You’ve got a woman playing the Doctor, now.  You’d better have women in that writer’s room.  Am I right?

Chibnall also brought in four new directors to work on the new season. Nida Manzoor (Enterprice), Emma Sullivan (Call the Midwife), Jamie Magnus Stone (Orbit Ever After) and Lee Haven Jones (Vera) all got a turn at head of the table.

Deadline quoted Chibnall as saying of the new season, “Along with our returning faces, we’re excited to welcome new members to the Doctor Who family. The Doctor Who team is crammed with British television’s brightest writers and directors: we’ve adored working with them, and can’t wait to show you the explosive stuff they’ve created.”  We are excited to hear it!

Doctor Who season 12 will air on BBC One in early 2020.
