The One Who Waits will wait no longer.
Doctor Who returns this Friday with Part 2 of its thrilling Season 1 finale. In the final moments of last week’s “The Legend of Ruby Sunday,” our favorite Gallifreyan reunited with a familiar foe — Sutekh. The god of death and leader of the Pantheon of Discord first appeared in “Pyramids of Mars,” a 1975 episode from Tom Baker‘s run.
Here’s a synopsis for Season 1 Episode 8, “Empire of Death”:
“The Doctor has lost, his ageless enemy reigns supreme, and a shadow is falling over creation. Nothing can stop the devastation … except, perhaps, one woman.”

Empire of Death
In “The Legend of Ruby Sunday,” the Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and his companion Ruby (Millie Gibson) dove into the latter’s enigmatic origins with help from UNIT. While exploring Christmas Eve 2004 on Ruby Road via UNIT’s Time Window, our Time Lord and Ruby discovered a mysterious entity. This entity later revealed himself as Sutekh, whose presence puts the universe in peril.
“Empire of Death” stars Gatwa, Gibson, Jemma Redgrave as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, Yasmin Finney as Rose Noble, Alexander Devrient as Colonel Ibrahim, Anita Dobson as Mrs. Flood, Michelle Greenidge as Carla Sunday, Bonnie Langford as Mel Bush, Angela Wynter as Cherry Sunday, Lenny Rush as Morris Gibbons, Susan Twist as Susan Triad and Gabriel Woolf as the voice of Sutekh.
Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies pens the episode with direction from Jamie Donoughue.

I’m excited to see how Davies wraps up this season. We still need answers to a few lingering questions, such as Ruby’s parentage and Mrs. Flood’s identity.
Additionally, we’ve seen glimpses of Fifteen’s rage in previous episodes. Will he truly unleash his fury as he races against time to save the universe from a god? Here’s hoping “Empire of Death” is as exciting and narratively rich as its predecessor.
