Happy Doctor Who Day, Whovians! To commemorate the first time Doctor Who aired 58 years ago, the official Twitter account for the mega-popular sci-fi series revealed that a New Year’s Day special is underway.

The final season featuring Jodie Whittaker‘s Thirteenth Doctor, entitled Doctor Who: Flux, will bow out on Sunday, December 5, with “The Vanquishers,” its sixth episode. This New Year’s Day special boasts a stellar guest cast, including Aisling Bea (This Way Up), Adjani Salmon (Dreaming Whilst Black) and Pauline McLynn (Shameless).

Here’s the synopsis of the episode, still untitled, per the Doctor Who news site

Sarah (Bea) owns and runs ELF storage, and Nick (Salmon) is a customer who visits his unit every year on New Year’s Eve. This year, however, their night turns out to be a little different than planned…

The current season of Doctor Who: Flux stars Whittaker, with Mandip Gill and John Bishop portraying companions Yaz and Dan, respectively. Jacob Anderson and Thaddea Graham guest star as Vinder and Bel. As of now, there’s no word yet whether Gill and Bishop will join Whittaker in the New Year’s Day special.

Besides news of the outing, the Doctor Who Twitter account also shared key art. You can see the TARDIS cracking in the said art, potentially signifying an explosion of our favorite Time Lord’s mode of transport. Additionally, for the air date, you can see “22” boasts an infinity sign. Perhaps the infinity sign hints at the antagonist squaring off against the Doctor? Let the speculation commence!

The upcoming New Year’s Day special isn’t the last time we’ll see Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor. This episode marks the first of three specials slated for 2022, with the second scheduled for the spring and Whittaker’s final go premiering in the autumn as part of the BBC’s Centenary festivities. The fall special will see the Doctor regenerate.

You can take a peek at the key art below, and be sure to tune in on Sunday, January 1, 2022, for a timey-wimey New Year’s Day celebration you won’t soon forget!
