Now that Ant-Man is out and the critics have loved it, more or less, and we’re starting to get closer and closer to next year’s Marvel movie offerings, more and more information is starting to come out about Marvel’s occult expert Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Strange.

First out of the gate, at a BAFTA Masterclass in London this week, the film’s cinematographer Ben Davis gave his impressions of the film’s look and feel, saying,

“Most of the work within it is about other dimensions. And I described it, I think, when I was talking to Marvel as Marvel’s Fantasia, in a way, because it’s so sort of out there and different to everything else that they’ve done.”

Not sure what exactly he means when he says Fantasia. Is he referencing the bright and colorful parts of it, with dancing hippos in tutu’s, or the dark and scary Night on Bald Mountain with the God of Evil, Chernabog?

Also, this week, in South Africa this week, following the event Disney Africa, there are more details about Doctor Strange’s costume. Traditionally, Doctor Strange wears a high collared shirt with a flamboyant red cloak — his Cloak of Levitation, clasped around his neck with the ancient amulet, The Eye of Agamotto.

But that look may not translate to film very well. So what exactly are they planning for the MCU version of the Sorcerer Supreme?

According to some tweets from people at the event who saw the concept art, he will have some very rich and textured robes.

Also, a report about the event was released in HTXT.Co.Za saying that, “Doctor Strange looks dark. Very dark. As in scraping the edge of a horror-movie-dark.” Feige, who was at the event, apparently also added that the film will have “firm footing in the shadowy world of the occult and supernatural.”
