The Hollywood Reporter was at a CineEurope Presentation Wednesday, where Disney/Marvel revealed a new video showing some footage from the upcoming Captain America: Civil War that highlighted “the on-screen friction between Captain America and Iron Man.” Co-director Joe Russo (one half of the Russo Bros.) said of the film that “the story revolved around ‘collateral damage’ after action by the Avengers results in the loss of life.”
We know in the comics, the Civil War story is kicked off when the irresponsible actions of a young New Warriors team results in the destruction of a few city blocks and an elementary school in the fictional city of Stamford. It appears that it’s actually Steve Rogers and his New Avengers team that causes this event. This makes sense in light of the fact that the team is composed of almost entirely new, untrained Avengers: Vision, Scarlet Witch, War Machine, and Falcon.
The presentation then moved on to Doctor Strange. Production hasn’t started yet, though we know Scott Derrickson is in England to start filming. That said, there was no new footage, but some “artist impressions” of Benedict Cumberbatch as the Sorcerer Supreme were shown. Beyond that, Kevin Feige, in a video, said that Cumberbatch was “perfect for the role” and that he offers a “complicated emotional structure.”
