After months of watching trailers and demos, Square Enix has finally announced that Dissidia Final Fantasy NT will be released on January 30, 2018 in North America.
The 3-on-3 battle game, which pits iconic Final Fantasy heroes and villains against each other, will only be released for the PlayStation 4. You can now pre-order a physical copy of the game for $59.99 through Amazon and the Square Enix Online Store. And if you pre-order before August 20th, you will receive a closed beta key for the game.
In case you missed some news about this game, the arcade version has been out in Japan for almost 2 years, so having it come to the states next year is exciting news. If you played the original Dissidia Final Fantasy or the prequel Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy on the PSP then you know about the unique structure of the game, with the one-on-one battles between the 10 warriors of Cosmos and their fights against their personal villains. Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is a little different with the addition of character classes (Vanguards, Marksmen, Assassin and Specialists) and a 3-on-3 battle system which gives players the ability to cycle through 3 different characters.
In addition to these important changes, the game also features over 20 playable characters and 10 battle arenas. Characters include:
- The Warrior of Light
- Cecil Harvey
- Kefka
- Kuja
- Garland
- Firion
- The Emperor
- Onion Knight
- Kain Highwind
- Bartz Klauser
- Cloud Strife
- Tidus
- Jecht
- Exdeath
- Terra
- Sephiroth
- Squall
- Zidane
- Lightning
- Shantotto
- Vaan
- Ramza Beoulve
- Ace
- Noctis
- Y’shtola Rhul
The game will also have different modes for different styles of play such as competitive online matches, players versus AI, and training matches.
Characters can level up in the game by earning experience and they will also earn gil. This gives players the freedom to customize their characters.
As for the game’s release there will be an Ultimate Collector Edition, a SteelBook Brawler Edition and a Digital Deluxe Edition that will come with goodies.
Ultimate Collector’s Edition ($189.99)
Only available through the Square Enix Online Store, the Ultimate Collector’s Edition comes with some amazing items including:
- An 8.25” Warrior of Light bust.
- The official soundtrack with 15 tracks selected from the Dissidia series as well as some newly recorded music.
- An 80-page hardback artbook.
- A Season Pass that will give you access to six playable characters and content after launch.
- A SteelBook case.
- A Collector’s Box featuring favorite Final Fantasy characters.
SteelBook Brawler Edition ($59.99)
If you pre-order your game through participating retailers, you can receive one of three limited edition SteelBook designs. Each SteelBook will have different heroes and villains such as Kefka, Sephiroth, Lightning, Cloud and Squall.
Digital Edition ($59.99) and Digital Deluxe Edition ($84.99)
If you only want the digital version of the game, you can pre-order it through the PlayStation Store. You will also receive a mini-soundtrack featuring 5 songs and access to the ‘Nameless Warrior’ character skin for the Warrior of Light. The Digital Deluxe Edition will also include a season pass.
It has been a while since I last played a Dissidia game, but I have to admit, this game will more than likely pull me back in. I’ll get my Kain, Sephiroth, Kefka team together and call them Team One-Winged Dragoon Clown. Or maybe Team Sand In My Boots.
