The official Twitter for the upcoming live action Disney film, Mulan shared six new character posters. Regardless of the criticism the film has created, the complete removal of music and Mushu, the posters and trailers have been terrific. Director Niki Caro has a list of strong female-driven stories under her belt and is working hard to do the same with Mulan. She also decided to base this remake on the more serious tone of The Ballad of Mulan rather than the original Disney film.

The six new posters feature Yifei Liu as Mulan, Donnie Yen as Commander Tung, Jason Scott Lee as Bori Khan, Yoson An as Cheng Honghui, Gong Li as Xianniang, and Jet Li as the Emperor. The artwork does an extraordinary job of showcasing the seriousness of the film’s tone. This has been such a stark contrast from the other Disney princess live action movies, but it feels only appropriate. Mulan is a story about a girl going to war in her father’s place. While we will all miss different parts of the original Disney film, everything we are seeing now just gets us more excited for the live action remake.

Disney’s official description of the film is as follows:

Mulan” is the epic adventure of a fearless young woman who masquerades as a man in order to fight Northern Invaders attacking China. The eldest daughter of an honored warrior, Hua Mulan is spirited, determined and quick on her feet. When the Emperor issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army, she steps in to take the place of her ailing father as Hua Jun, becoming one of China’s greatest warriors ever.

Mulan is set for release in theaters on March 27, 2020. Let us know what you think of the new art posters and your thoughts on the upcoming film!
