If there is an upside to the Disney/Lucasfilm merger, it’s that Star Wars is coming to life for all of us to experience. Disneyland is building a new attraction called Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. On Wednesday, Disney released a behind-the-scenes look at what park-goers can expect when it arrives.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will provide attendees with two rides in addition to some general Star Wars ambiance and probably snacks. Both rides are featured in the first-look video. The first gives you the ability to do what every Star Wars fan dreams of, fly the Millennium Falcon, in “Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run”. The second, called “Rise of the Resistance”, puts you right in the middle of the Resistance and the First Order with a mission to save the galaxy.
Disney Imagineering and Lucasfilm both have a representative speak in the video as we get a glimpse at what they’re cooking up. Carrie Beck, VP Lucasfilm Story Group said, “It will be jaw-dropping and incredibly emotional to walk into the land for the first time.” We don’t doubt that one bit.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be open to the public at Disneyland in Anaheim, California in the summer of 2019. DisneyWorld Orlando will follow closely in the fall. Punch it, Chewie!
