We’ve all imagined going to the junk yard for a project vehicle or buying a used car off an old dirty lot and watching it waking up to be a Transformer (or is it just me?). It’s hard not to when transforming robots have been your entire childhood. Michael Bay brought the 1980s cartoon to life in 2007 with the live-action Transformers, which spawned four sequels and has now branched out with a solo spin off: Bumblebee. That spin off now has its first teaser trailer!

It’s a mystical bond between man and machine…
Bumblebee, directed by Travis Knight, is a prequel to the 2007 film, and as such, Bumblebee is not depicted as a sporty, shiny, new Camaro. Instead, he is shown in car form as a used, dirty, yellow Volkswagon Beetle, just like in the cartoons. Charlie Watson (Hailee Steinfeld) discovers him in a junk yard (with a honeycomb beehive hanging on him) and takes him to her garage. When a piece of the car randomly drops to the floor, she crawls under to investigate and comes face to face with the Autobot.
The two-minute teaser gives us our first glimpse at Bumblebee transforming from Bug to Bot and forming a bond with Charlie. It also gives us a sneak peek at what’s to come: driving along the coast, running through a forest, deep diving in the water (which can’t be good for Bumblebee!), and what appears to be a carefree summer set in 1987. However, things aren’t all fun and games; not only does the military arrive (with John Cena playing a government agent), a Decepticon (Starscream?!) transforms mid-air! Explosions, car chases, action, oh my! And there’s a bee mask for Bumblebee! There is also a call for help: Charlie tells Bumblebee there are people that need him.

Every Adventure Has a Beginning
The release of the teaser trailer was accompanied by a new movie poster. Charlie and Bumblebee stand in silhouette, watching the sun set over the ocean. A gorgeous sky highlights the pair as they look ready to begin their own adventure. Christmas can’t come soon enough!

See the trailer below and tell us what you think: Is this a throwback prequel film you want to check out when it arrives in theaters on December 21, 2018? The 1980s music, alone, may make the film fun, no matter how much of a tantrum Bumblebee appears to throw over Charlie’s cassette tape!
From Paramount Pictures:
On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.
Bumblebee is directed by Travis Knight and stars Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena. The film is set to release on December 21, 2018.
