What a big step forward! According to Variety, director Sam Raimi will be joining The Kingkiller Chronicle film. With producer and lyrical genius Lin-Manuel Miranda on board as well, this project is seemingly unstoppable! While the Spider-Man and Evil Dead director had been eyeing other projects, it appears this will be the next film he’s working on.
Back in October we learned that the adaptation of Patrick Rothfuss’ novels was bigger than a film. Showtime won the rights to produce a television series set in the world of Temerant. The film would focus on the first book while the TV series is going to be a “subversive” origin story, set a generation before the first novel. While we still don’t know what that entails, fans of the series will be excited for more in the world.

As for the film, I’m not sure what to think of Raimi’s involvement. I don’t hate it, but it seems a fairly odd choice, given that he hasn’t really touched in fantasy, let alone epic fantasy before. He also hasn’t directed anything since Disney’s Oz the Great and Powerful so we’ll see. Lindsey Beer is currently set to write the script. She has Dungeons & Dragons and Godzilla vs Kong on her list of credits right now. Mostly, I’m just excited for the massive adaptation to be underway! A film, TV series, games – it’s going to be crazy. And hopefully successful for everyone involved.
