The upcoming Doom Patrol has taken a bit of a back-seat lately with Titans news. But that changed as yesterday with THR announcing some casting news. Everyone please give a warm welcome to Diane Guerrero to Team Doom. Her role will be a bit crazy as she’ll be playing Crazy Jane.

In the comics, Kay Challis suffers from multiple personality disorder. Her dominant personality is Jane Morris, hence the nickname. After an accident involving a “gene bomb” from aliens known as Dominators, Challis developed a different superpower for each of her 64 personalities. Yes, 64 personalities. Each personality is organized in a mental subway grid called the Underground, with each one having a “station”. Funnily enough, personality Jane Morris doesn’t have any superpowers. The character was inspired by Truddi Chase, a woman who suffered from DID. Jane made her comic debut in Doom Patrol Vol. 2 #19 from February 1989.

While we don’t know just how many personalities Guerrero will be working on, the task is enormous. Not impossible though as we’ve seen James McAvoy play a similar character in Split. That being said, it’s going to be incredible to watch if she can pull them all off. The character of Kay is incredibly sad, made even more sad given her connection to Truddi Chase. I hope the character can help further open the discussion on people who suffer from sexual abuse and the damage it can do. Regardless, I’m looking forward to seeing how they handle the character.
