Anticipation is high for Wonder Woman 1984. The sequel to the highly successful DCEU film already has a lot of buzz around it with the new villains, the time period, and returning characters thought to be long dead. Well thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we now have a better picture on what we can expect from Diana, princess of Themyscira. It all starts with where she’s currently located and how she’s been doing.
When we see Diana in the present day at the end of Wonder Woman, she’s been working at the Louvre, a very prestigious and well known museum. How did she snag such a job? Well it appears that she’s had a bit of practice in the conservation of precious artifacts since she was working at the Natural History Museum in Washington, D.C. The epicenter of America, some may call it.
However, it’s not all glitz and glamour for our princess. In fact, she’s been leading a rather lonely life. Journalist Leah Greenblatt noted that the set for Diana’s DC home is very minimalist, without much personality besides black and white photos of the people she’s loved. Producer Charles Roven fills in the gaps, explaining that she’s still mourning her friends, as they are not immortal like she is. “Her life is actually quite lonely and spartan. In fact, the only joy that she gets out of it is when she’s actually doing something for people, if she can help those in need.” Some would argue that’s what Diana does best.

Now she can’t always help people without her armor. While her classic red and blue is still on deck for many battles, she’ll need something even greater for the threats she’s going to face in this film. Enter the Golden Warrior Armor, a set of pure gold armor with a helmet and incredible set of wings. While her shield took inspiration from Roman soldiers, her wings came from somewhere else entirely. Costume designer Lindy Hemming noted that when her wings are “in the light it’s always liquid, moving.” That is sure to help her balance out her warrior fighting style with the fluidity and grace she’s used to in her other set of armor. Her Themysciran sisters would be very jealous of this armor.
Speaking of Themyscira, we will actually be revisiting the island of paradise in a flashback sequence. Robin Wright and Connie Nielson are set to return as we will see an Olympian inspired tournament. Apparently the competition will be incredibly fierce and end up in a Mad Max: Fury Road chase through the desert. I have no idea what that will look like but you can consider me in, 100 percent.
All of this sounds incredible and I cannot wait to see what’s in store for Diana. Though it makes me a bit sad to hear how lonely she is, I guess it’s accurate to the superhero and immortal life. If no one can understand what you’re going through, how could you let anyone in? We’ll have to wait and see how she balances it.
