A Discovery of Witches season one introduced viewers to Diana Bishop (Teresa Palmer) as she traveled into a world of magic and love. In season two, Diana and her new love Matthew Clairmont (Matthew Goode) have to hide in a new place in time. And it appears Diana is in more danger than before.

According to a press release from earlier this month, the love birds go into hiding in an Elizabethan time. The first trailer was released at New York Comic Con and outlined the couple’s objective for season two. Diana is looking for a powerful witch to teach her how to use her powers. The couple is also looking for a book that is the key to immortality. It’s all about power.

From the looks of things, no one in the Elizabethan time is happy for Matthew and Diana. That kind of tension can be really hard for a new couple. Matthew appears to be having a hard time dealing with his past, as well. His friends are quick to remind him of the monster he can be. And Diana’s presence makes things worse for him. Will this be Matthew’s breaking point?

A Discovery of Witches also stars Alex Kingston, Valarie Pettiford, Lindsay Duncan, Edward Bluemel, Aiysha Hart, Daniel Ezra, Aisling Loftus, Trevor Eve, Owen Teale, Malin Buska, and Gregg Chillin. James Purefoy, Steven Cree, and Adelle Leonce join season two as new characters.

Adapted from Deborah Harkness’  All Souls Trilogy, the 10 episode second season will premiere in the UK first and the US the following day. Then new episodes air every Saturday after. Watch the trailer below.

A Discovery of Witches season two premieres in the US on Sundance Now and Shudder on Saturday, January 9, 2021.
