In an interview with The Today Show Australia, Denzel Washington has teased his involvement in the upcoming Marvel Studios movie Black Panther 3. The role was hinted at by the two-time Oscar winner as he shared some of his exciting upcoming projects.

Washington appeared on the show to promote his role in Gladiator 2, which arrives in theaters on November 22, 2024. During the interview, Washington was asked whether he still possessed anxieties about appearing in movies like Gladiator 2. Washington replied that he was only interested in working with the best, and doing things he hasn’t done before.

Washington proceeded to list off his planned projects. These include playing Othello on the stage and screen, as well as a possible film with Steve McQueen. However, of most interest to Marvel Cinematic Universe fans was a tease about his involvement in the third movie in the Black Panther trilogy. “Ryan Coogler is writing a part for me in the next Black Panther,” Washington stated. Currently, no official information is available regarding Black Panther 3. The movie has not been announced and has no official release timeline.
Interestingly, Washington already possesses a connection to the Black Panther series. This was revealed by the late Chadwick Boseman, who played T’Challa in the first Black Panther, during a speech at the American Film Institute. As Boseman explained, Washington privately paid for him (and several other students) to attend a summer acting program at the British American Drama Academy. “There is no Black Panther without Denzel Washington,” stated Boseman.

Currently, nothing is known about what role Washington might play in the movie. There are plenty of possibilities, though, especially with the second movie in the trilogy, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, opening up the narrative of the series to the large Marvel universe.
