The Spice is flowing as production begins on Denis Villeneuve’s Dune reboot. Filming will take place in three locations: Budapest, Hungary, and Jordan. We also have the official synopsis, courtesy of Warner Bros and Legendary Films.
A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.
The Stellar Cast
Dune has created quite a buzz in the past few months because of it’s star studded cast. The film stars Timothee Chalamet as the lead character Paul Atreides; Rebecca Ferguson and Oscar Isaac as his parents Lady Jessica and Duke Leto Atreides and Zendaya will play Paul’s love interest Chani.
The rest of the cast include Stellan Skarsgård, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Dave Bautista, and Charlotte Rampling. Stephen Henderson has just been added to the cast, so we do not know which character he will be playing. My money is on Thufir Hawat. Still in negotiations are Javier Bardem and Chang Chen. There are still a few more key chracters to cast too. Hopefully we’ll learn more about these characters soon.
Villeneuve co-wrote the script with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts. He will also serve as producer with Mary Parent, and Cale Boyter. Executive producers are Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, Thomas Tull, and Kim Herbert for the Herbert family. Hans Zimmer signed on to score the film as well.
Dune is set to premiere in theaters on November 20, 2020.
