Amy Adams has been cast in Dear Evan Hansen film adaptation.

The Universal Pictures film adaptation of critically lauded Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen is expanding! Equally critically lauded actress Amy Adams has joined the cast as Cynthia Murphy, mother of characters Zoe and Connor Murphy, Variety reports.

Universal acquired the film rights to Dear Evan Hansen in late 2018. Stephen Chbosky will be at the helm while scribe Steven Levenson will pen the script. Levenson also wrote the book for the stage musical. Actor Ben Platt is expected to reprise the titular role of Evan Hansen. Platt originated said role and won a Tony Award for his performance. Kaitlyn Dever will portray Zoe Murphy. Additionally, Amandla Stenberg is joining the cast as Alana. Her character has been expanded from the stage production and she’ll perform a song in the film.

Dear Evan Hansen opened on Broadway in 2016. The musical follows Hansen, a socially anxious high school student, while he’s entangled in a critical lie. Connor Murphy’s family mistakes one of Hansen’s letters for their son’s suicide note.

Adams will be seen in the upcoming flicks The Woman in the Window and Hillbilly Elegy. She’s been nominated for five Academy Awards for her performances as of late.

Now, Adams is a sensational performer. She’s one of my favorite actresses. Not to mention, Adams has some pipes, as is evident from her work in Disney’s Enchanted. I’ve no doubt she’ll imbue the film with her mesmerizing energy.
