SCOOBYNATURAL IS FINALLY HERE! From calling dibs on Daphne to dedicating his life to Scooby, Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) is ready to join the Mystery Gang in the next episode of Supernatural.  This is the first animated crossover event for Supernatural. It literally is “the most ambitious crossover event in history.”  (Hahahaha!)

The episode has been in the works for over a year now.  Executive Producer Andrew Dabb had a friend in Warner Bros animation who suggested the crossover in November 2016. Transforming a live action show takes months to create.  So when the show got the early renewal for the 2017-18 season, Dabb said okay.  Show writers completed the script in Spring of 2017 and stars Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins were in the sound booth by April.   Since that time, animators transformed Dean, Sam, Cas and Baby. And the final cut was ready in January.  That’s a lot of work for one episode!

“There are more steps to this process — animatics, voice recordings — and you’re getting feedback along the way, but we’ve been along so long that, to their credit, they trusted us and let us have some fun,” – Dabb, from Variety.com

The episode will start as any regular Supernatural episode with live action sequences directed by Robert Singer.  The Scooby-Doo part of the show is about 30 minutes of jinkies, zoiks, and Dean trying to win over Daphne. There is a mystery in there somewhere.

“What we wanted to make clear was our guys are in an episode of ‘Supernatural’ and those guys are in an episode of ‘Scooby Doo,’  That doesn’t mean there aren’t crossovers and revelations and things like that, but there were certain things, obviously, that Warner Bros. doesn’t want — like Thelma beheading a vampire.” – Dabb, from Variety.com

Supernatural is a dark show most of the time. There are some light-hearted and funny episodes, so it should be an easy transition to animation.   I’m anxious to see how dark Warner Bros. allowed the Supernatural writers to get within the Scooby-Doo realm.  Oh and how does Castiel get into the cartoon?  I’m excited!

Check out the extended trailer for ScoobyNatural!

Sam, Dean and Castiel are transported into the animated world of Scooby Doo where they join forces with the Scooby gang to solve a ghostly mystery.

Supernatural’s special crossover event, “ScoobyNatural” airs Thursday March 29 on the CW!
