When Deadpool first hit theaters in 2016, it came with a very hard R rating. Fans were ecstatic that the film wasn’t bowing to pressure to make the film PG-13, because that would take away the heart of the anti-hero’s appeal. Deadpool 2 was marketed as a family film – but not that kind of movie; the story line was about what makes a family and it kept the hard R rating.

But then, there was an idea: What if Deadpool 2 was a film for the entire family? Once Upon a Deadpool was born. This isn’t a third movie, it is simply a re-cut of Deadpool 2 that makes it PG-13, but with a twist fit for the Merc with a Mouth. Taking a page direct from Princess Bride, and scribbled all over by the man in red, Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) sits bedside with a fairy tale book and entertains a kidnapped Fred Savage

And to those that are concerned this is just another cash-grab by Fox, who licenses Deadpool from Marvel, Reynolds had two conditions on bringing Deadpool to a younger audience: “First, a portion of the proceeds had to go to charity. Second, I wanted to kidnap Fred Savage.” It appears he was successful in kidnapping a fellow actor, so what about the charity?  Reynolds got his wish there, as well. F*ckCancer, which has agreed to go by the name “Fudge Cancer” for this retelling of Deadpool 2, will get $1 of every ticket sold. The film will only be in theaters for 12 days enjoying a little holiday special event leading up to Christmas.

Watch the Once Upon a Deadpool Trailer

Deadpool brings in a few film references with the trailer for Once Upon a Deadpool. Aside from the obvious Princess Bride tie in, catch a little stereotypical Christmas movie introduction and a very not-so-subtle UP moment. It also appears that Deadpool has his hands full with his captive. Fred Savage lives up to his name tearing down Deadpool and Marvel. Catch the trailer and poster for this special event below. Will you be filling up on popcorn with Deadpool and your kids this holiday season?

From Fox:
On December 12, Deadpool 2 is back in theaters with zero F’s given.

To kick off the holiday season audiences of almost all ages will soon be able to enjoy the Merc with the Mouth’s reimagining of Deadpool 2 filtered through the prism of childlike innocence.

“Fox has been asking for a PG-13 basically since the start in 2006,” Ryan Reynolds told Deadline. “I’ve said no since 2006. Now, this one time, I said ‘Yes’ on two conditions. First, a portion of the proceeds had to go to charity. Second, I wanted to kidnap Fred Savage. The second condition took some explaining…”

Fred Savage will join Reynolds in new scenes for ONCE UPON A DEADPOOL in an homage to Savage’s starring role in the 1987 bedtime-story classic THE PRINCESS BRIDE. Fred remarked, “while my participation in this film was anything but voluntary, I am happy to learn that Fudge Cancer will be the beneficiary of this shameless cash grab”

For every ticket sold, $1 will go to the charity Fudge Cancer – previously known as Fuck Cancer, who have graciously changed their name to be more PG-13 friendly for the 12 days of Once Upon A Deadpool’s release.
