Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool in the original Deadpool movie. He's pantomiming a gasp.

In a post made to his Instagram stories on Monday, July 10, 2023, Deadpool 3 star Ryan Reynolds unveiled a first look at Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. And just like Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, this Logan variant has 1990s X-Men action figure energy.

It isn’t just Jackman’s Wolverine who will return for Deadpool 3, which seems on track to claim the title of “most multiversal Marvel movie.” And that’s not excluding the Spider-Verse movies. In addition to Wolverine, it was also recently announced that Jennifer Garner will reprise the role of Elektra, which she originated in 2003’s Daredevil

The movie will also feature the return of the most memorable cast members from the first two Deadpool movies. Brianna Hildebrand will return as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Stefan Kapicic as Colossus and Rob Delaney as Peter. Will any (or all) of these characters get updated costumes?

In addition, Deadpool will introduce Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen in currently undisclosed roles. Plus, it’s entirely possible there are more Marvel characters waiting in the wings. These could include other X-Men most famous for their ’90s-era antics. However, Deadpool undertook some serious time-travel shenanigans in the final moments of Deadpool 2. Thanks to this convenient narrative trick, characters from any corner of the Marvel multiverse could make an appearance. And if they look as good as Wolverine does, True Believers can look forward to their arrival.

Deadpool 3 is directed by Shawn Levy from a script he wrote with Reynolds, Paul Wernick and Zeb Wells. However, the original draft was written by Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin. What other Marvelous makeovers might be in store when the highly anticipated threequel arrives in theaters on May 3, 2024? In the meantime, the first two Deadpool movies are available for streaming on Disney+.
