Deadpool 2

Ryan Reynolds in the Deadpool 2 teaser.

News dropped Friday March 3rd that a teaser for the much anticipated Deadpool 2 would be playing in front of Logan. Luckily, not only is the clip running in front of the newest X-Men movie, but the teaser is also available online, thanks to Ryan Reynolds’ Twitter account.

The appearance of the trailer is very much a pleasant surprise, as the movie is still a year away from hitting screens. However, as the creative team on the first film demonstrated, they don’t shy away from dropping crumbs to keep fans happy.

The trailer opens on a run down city block. It’s dirty, dank, and graffiti is everywhere. A man wearing a hoodie walks past a movie theater, which is also playing Logan. Meanwhile, an elderly man is mugged on a street corner, the commotion attracting Wade Wilson’s attention.

The action progresses with trademark Deadpool humor as the “Merc with a Mouth” riffs on Superman when he struggles to change into his costume in a phone booth. He only emerges after there is a gunshot. “Zip it, Stan Lee!” Deadpool yells as he darts across the street. It just so happens, a bemused Stan Lee hovers nearby.

However, as Deadpool reaches the site of the mugging, the victim lies dead on the pavement. “Oh, jesus. Oh, that’s not good. No, no, no, oh you’re not going to walk that one out…”. Deadpool proceeds to lay down with his head on the victim’s stomach, while questioning how there could still be a phone booth on a street corner. “Didn’t they all disappear in 1998?”.

Deadpool 2 is currently slated to premiere March 2, 2018. Lead actor Ryan Reynolds will reprise his role. Meanwhile, current rumors speculate actor David Harbour is the favorite to play Cable. Drew Goddard penned the script, while Fox signed David Leitch to direct.
