Dead Boy Detectives Season 1 took Netflix by storm last month. Its quirky, cheeky and breathless charm has captivated viewers worldwide. Season 1 is a strong showing for the campy fantasy series, complete with compelling performances and fascinating, intricate lore, proving why it’s a welcome addition to The Sandman universe.
Below, I’ve compiled a list of 10 things I want to see in a potential Season 2. Netflix hasn’t greenlit said Season 2 yet, but I’m crossing my fingers and counting every cat I see in my town that the streamer will make it happen.
Jenny Solving Cases With the Agency
So, Jenny (Briana Cuoco) never gives our titular Dead Boys, Edwin (George Rexstrew) and Charles (Jayden Revri), a definitive answer regarding her returning with them to London. There are butcher shops aplenty in the city, so she would undoubtedly find work or the space to establish Tongue & Tail on the other side of the pond. Sure, it would be a competitive market, but who doesn’t relish a bit of competition?

I’d love to see her adjust to a new country and eventually join the agency. She can solve cases with Edwin, Charles and Crystal (Kassius Nelson). The more, the merrier.
Night Nurse Eventually Warming Up to Our Crew
Night Nurse (Ruth Connell) would rather be in her element in the Afterlife Lost & Found Department instead of overseeing Edwin and Charles’ work. Unfortunately, the Principal (Tamlyn Tomita) assigns her as the boys’ supervisor after her division failed to solve countless ghost-related cases. While there’s nothing funnier than an Odd Couple dynamic, I’d like to see Night Nurse eventually warm up to our crew. They can all butt heads initially, but throughout Season 2, Night Nurse will slowly become Team DBD (Dead Boy Detectives).
The Principal’s Real Identity Revealed
Who is the Principal? Why does she react to seeing the card for Niko (Yuyu Kitamura) under “Closed Cases” in Charles and Edwin’s office? Upon viewing the season finale, I wondered if she is Niko as an adult. She could also be Niko’s mother or aunt. I believe a relation or connection exists—perhaps their paths cross after Esther (Jenn Lyon) kills Niko. Maybe we’ll get a flashback episode chronicling the Principal and Niko’s journeys and how they intertwine.

Edwin Finding Love
Edwin confessing his love for Charles in the penultimate episode is such a tender, beautifully vulnerable moment, bolstered by George Rexstrew’s stirring performance. I hoped the Edwin/Charles ship would come to fruition, but alas, it never left the dock. That doesn’t mean we won’t see their love blossom down the line. Charles still has a lot of introspective work to do.
If he and Charles can’t be together, I’d like Edwin to find love elsewhere. He deserves a boyfriend who worships the ground on which he walks. Perhaps the Cat King (Lukas Gage) can travel to the UK? Make it so, Season 2.
Charles Figuring Sh*t Out
Listen, Charles harbors a ton of childhood trauma courtesy of his father’s abuse and the incessant bullying he received. Additionally, how he died was incredibly traumatizing, as it was for Edwin. He only touches the surface of his pain and grief in Season 1 after 30 years of suppression. I’d love to see him continue on the path to healing in Season 2. Figure that sh*t out before he pursues another romance. An arc with a teenage boy coming to terms with his internalized toxic masculinity and working through his trauma would pack an emotional punch.

Crystal and Charles Should Remain Friends
Speaking of romance, I want Crystal and Charles to remain friends. If Edwin and Charles can’t be a couple, I’d like the whole group to focus on fostering their friendship and close, platonic bonds. Maybe both Charles and Crystal can eventually discover love beyond their inner circle.
What Happened to Niko After Esther Killed Her?
If you recall, the final moment of the season finds dandelion sprites Litty (Caitlin Reilly) and Kingham (Max Jenkins) in an igloo in the Arctic with none other than Niko. Well, we don’t see her face because a hood shrouds it. However, she holds the charm Tragic Mick (Michael Beach) gives her before she and Crystal square off against Esther.
So, how did Niko wind up there? Is she a tangible being or a spirit? Is her location a plane between worlds? Regardless, the charm saves her, and Litty and Kingham boast a connection with Niko since they possessed her at the beginning of the season.

Niko Reuniting With the Gang
It’s the reunion we all want (and need, honestly). I don’t want it to happen too late into the season — maybe after the first few episodes. Either way, the narrative should build to it. Perhaps Edwin and Charles will start solving the cold cases, leading them to unravel the mystery of Niko’s “death” and why they didn’t see her ghost right off the bat. Then, they’ll inevitably discover the igloo in the Arctic, and we’ll learn whether it’s on Earth or part of a supernatural plane.
I know their reunion will be sweet and tear-inducing, especially when Edwin and Niko embrace.
More Sandman Crossovers and the Return of Supporting Characters
Season 1 blesses us with two The Sandman cameos — Death (Kirby) and Despair (Donna Preston). I’d love to see more crossovers between these sister shows in the future. Maybe the rest of the Endless will make their way onto Dead Boy Detectives, including Dream (Tom Sturridge) and Desire (Mason Alexander Park).
Additionally, I want supporting characters like Tragic Mick and the Cat King to return. I’d add the fabulous Esther to that list, but she’s probably very, very dead at this point.

A New Big Bad
Since Season 1 resolves the “avoiding Death” arc, I hope Season 2 sets up a new Big Bad. Could it be the Principal? (I hope not.) Perhaps it’s not so much a figure/character but a supernatural event. We need a new antagonist for our characters to battle.
