Still of cast of The Suicide Squad by James Gunn.

You may want to sit down for this, DC fans. Saturday’s DC FanDome event blessed us with comic book debauchery in all its glory. The Suicide Squad put the pedal to the metal with a multitude of behind-the-scenes footage and a brand spanking new poster! Director/scribe James Gunn promised fans that the flick would be a “gritty war movie that’s very different from any superhero movie ever made.” I find it prudent to trust the man who changed superhero blockbusters with the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, don’t you?

In addition to exclusive behind-the-scenes features and a poster, The Suicide Squad panel also revealed the full cast. Holy guacamole, Batman — this cast is epic in every sense of the word. Obviously, we already knew that Margot RobbieJai CourtneyViola Davis, and Joel Kinnaman were returning to reprise their roles. However, nothing could have prepared us for the new additions to the core team players.

Now, the “roll call” video pulled back the curtain on each cast member in their respective character costumes. The brief behind-the-scenes footage revealed a plethora of carnage, things that go “boom,” and various members of the cast hailing Gunn for his prowess. Idris Elba, who’s coming on board as Bloodsport, described The Suicide Squad as a “graphic novel come to life.” Producer Peter Safran revealed that audiences can expect the trademark James Gunn humor fans know and love. Throw that humor in with a smattering of heart and loads of exploding genitals, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a comic book movie!

The Suicide Squad poster gives off Guardians of the Galaxy vibes with its vibrant ’80s color palette. We see each character armed to the teeth with weaponry and running full-speed toward something unseen. Needless to say, I’ve never been more elated for a DC film in my life. On a somewhat unrelated note: Harley Quinn is back in her signature red. All is right with the world.

While this movie could quite easily save us from the disaster that is 2020, we’re going to have to wait til August 6th, 2021 to fully immerse ourselves in The Suicide Squad. You can take a gander at the full cast reveal and behind-the-scenes videos as well as the unveiled first poster below.
