Full disclosure, A Wrinkle in Time is one of my all-time favorite books. Reading it was the first time I was launched head-long into the stunning world of sci-fi/fantasy, and I never went back. So, I’m biased. But, the trailer for Disney’s live-action adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time is stunning. The imagery and adventure all over this trailer bring new and incredible dimension to the story we know and love.

The trailer for the Ava DuVernay directed film is visually remarkable. The visual effects are breath taking. From the start, at the Disney logo, you are taken into another world BEFORE the trailer starts when the image splits into a kaleidoscope of castles. It just gets better from there. This is one of those cases where the aesthetics and imagery of film enhance what I imagined when reading a book. It’s so exciting!

The thing that is most notable about the story of the trailer is the palpable sense of danger. Danger is definitely in the book, and my biggest concern was that Disney would leave it behind. Though the film looks colorful and stylized, I have great hope that the darkness will still live in this story, based on this trailer. And, the three Mrs.’s are etherial and powerful, when they are so often portrayed as silly and bumbling in other adaptations. I love it. The tesseract is no joke.

From visionary director Ava DuVernay comes Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time,” an epic adventure based on Madeleine L’Engle’s timeless classic which takes audiences across dimensions of time and space, examining the nature of darkness versus light and, ultimately, the triumph of love. Through one girl’s transformative journey led by three celestial guides, we discover that strength comes from embracing one’s individuality and that the best way to triumph over fear is to travel by one’s own light.

A Wrinkle in Time will be released in theaters March 9th.
