Whovians, you might want to sit down for this. On Sunday, we learned from the BBC that Doctor Who veterans David Tennant (the Tenth Doctor) and Catherine Tate (Donna Noble) are returning to our favorite time-wimey sci-fi show!

As reported by the BBC, Tennant and Tate are currently filming scenes slated to coincide with the storied science fiction juggernaut’s 60th anniversary.

This announcement comes hot on the heels of last week’s reveal that Ncuti Gatwa will pilot the TARDIS as the Fourteenth Doctor, taking up the Time Lord mantle after Jodie Whittaker, the Thirteenth Doctor, bids farewell later this year.

As exciting as Tate and Tennant’s return is, it’s somewhat expected, given Russell T Davies is reprising his role as showrunner after Chris Chibnall departs the series.

If you’ll recall, we last saw Tennant in the 50th-anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor. He starred alongside Matt Smith (the Eleventh Doctor), Tom Baker (The Fourth Doctor/The Curator), Jenna Coleman (Clara Oswald), Billie Piper (Rose Tyler/The Moment/Bad Wolf) and the late, great John Hurt (The War Doctor).

Meanwhile, Tate’s final appearance came in 2010’s “The End of Time: Part Two,” wherein the Doctor erased Donna’s memories to save her life. However, should she remember him, she’ll die.

Davies had this to say regarding the pair’s triumphant return:

They’re back! And it looks impossible — first, we announce a new Doctor, and then an old Doctor, along with the wonderful Donna, what on Earth is happening?  Maybe this is a missing story. Or a parallel world. Or a dream, or a trick, or a flashback. The only thing I can confirm is that it’s going to be spectacular, as two of our greatest stars reunite for the battle of a lifetime.

Firstly, I’m tickled to see one of the show’s most popular dynamic duos reprise their roles. Perhaps my excitement is the byproduct of nostalgia, but if Davies successfully executes this, it could be fun. However, I don’t want Tennant and Tate to overshadow Gatwa’s time in the spotlight as our current Time Lord. I have faith Davies will do right by us for all parties involved.
