Apple TV+’s Murderbot series officially has another cast member. Deadline broke the news that David Dastmalchian has joined the project. Read on to find out what we know about the adaptation so far.

Murderbot follows a security unit that would rather watch soap operas than protect humans from danger. But when the job goes wrong, Murderbot must hide its free will and help its vulnerable clients before it’s too late. Currently, The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells consists of five novellas and two novels. The most recent, System Collapse, came out in November 2023. Multiple installations in the series have won Hugo and Nebula awards.

News of the adaptation came in December 2023. Academy Award nominees Chris and Paul Weitz are set to showrun, write, direct and produce. The series will have 10 episodes and is executive-produced by Alexander Skarsgård. Skarsgård will also star in the series as Murderbot itself. 

David Dastmalchian 

Dastmalchian has most recently been seen as William Borden in Oppenheimer and as Wojchek in The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Other previous film roles include Dune, The Suicide Squad and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. In Murderbot, Dastmalchian will play Gurathin, an augmented human scientist with a knack for computers.
