THR is reporting that David Dastmalchian has joined the cast of James Gunn‘s Suicide Squad 2. Dastmalchian will play Polka-Dot Man. This is the first of four villains for the movie that also includes King Shark, Peacemaker, and Ratcatcher.
Polka-Dot Man, a.k.a. Abner Krill first appeared in Detective Comics #300 in 1962. Krill is a crook trying to make a name for himself by committing “spot-themed” crimes. He wears a polka-dot costume, but the costume is just as dangerous. Polka-Dot man can peel off the dots and transform them into different weapons.
Dastmalchian was recently in Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp. This role marks his return to the DC Universe. His first film role was in Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight in 2008. He also appeared in The Flash season three as villain Abra Kadabra and in Fox Batman series, Gotham season three.
Suicide Squad 2 also stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang. Idris Elba has signed on to play an undisclosed character. And John Cena in talks to join the cast well, also as an undisclosed character.
This should be an interesting and eccentric character. I’m excited to see what Gunn has in store for us. Dastmalchian is a great character actor with an amazing range. He is definitely one to watch.
Suicide Squad 2 is set to open Aug. 6, 2021.
