In a Bluesky post on Thursday, December 7, 2023, David Aja shared a previously unseen art poster for The Marvels. Featuring the veteran Marvel Comics artist’s distinctive style, the poster features the main characters and supporting cast. If the imagery calls to mind the Hawkeye opening credits, there’s a very good reason for that.
The Marvels Cast and Crew Gift by David Aja
The Marvels poster designed by Aja features Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), Carol “Captain Marvel” Danvers (Brie Larson) and Kamala “Ms. Marvel” Khan (Iman Vellani) front and center and in full color. Also accompanying the heroic trio is Goose the Flerken, who plays a significant role in The Marvels.
Meanwhile, the background is populated by the supporting cast, including ally Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and enemy Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton). Also present are the Khan family, Yusuf (Mohan Kapur), Muneeba (Zenobia Shroff) and Aamir (Saagar Shaikh), who provided The Marvels with stakes and comedic relief.

According to the social media post by Aja, he completed this poster nearly a year ago. Furthermore, he states that he worked with the movie’s writer and director, Nia DaCosta, “whom [he] love[s].” Just what goes into this kind of project? Aja gave further insight in the post replies. This came after G. Willow Wilson (who co-created Ms. Marvel with Adrian Alphona, Sana Amanat, Jamie McKelvie and Stephen Wacker) replied to Aja’s post with a heart-eyes emoji. In response, Aja revealed, “I watched the film then with NO FX, ha, was super funny.”
Fans of the MCU are likely to find Aja’s distinctive art style familiar. True Believers may best recognize his work from the instant classic run of Hawkeye (2012) by Aja and Matt Fraction. For this series, Aja did the majority of the interior art and covers, with the latter being especially stylized. The 2021 Disney+ adaptation of Hawkeye was primarily based on this run, with the imagery of the show’s theme song specifically pulling from the aesthetic of Aja’s Hawkeye covers.
