Quite A Guest List
AMC announced quite a few tidbits about season 3 of Dark Winds at their Upfront Presentation, including an extensive list of guest actors who will feature in the season. According to Deadline, that list will include Jenna Elfman (Fear the Walking Dead) and Bruce Greenwood (The Fall of the House of Usher). Elfman will play BI Special Agent Sylvia Washington, while Greenwood is set to appear as Tom Spenser.

In addition to Elfman and Greenwood, it looks like we’ll see guest turns from Season 3 Raoul Max Trujillo (Blue Beetle) as Budge, Tonantzin Carmelo (La Brea) as Border Patrol Agent Eleanda Garza, Alex Meraz (The Walking Dead) as Border Patrol Agent Ivan Muños, Terry Serpico (Law & Order SVU) as Border Patrol Senior Chief Ed Henry, Derek Hinkey as Shorty Bowlegs, Phil Burke (Hell on Wheels) as Michael Halsey, and Christopher Heyerdahl (Van Helsing, Sanctuary) as Dr Reynolds.
Dang, that’s quite a party!
New Mysteries for Joe, Jim, Emma and Bernadette
Fans of the show have come to appreciate the chemistry between stars Zahn McClarnon (Longmire, Westworld), Kiowa Gordon (The Red Road, Roswell, New Mexico) and Jessica Matten (Tribal, Frontier) and AMC seems to get that. Season 3 picks up six months after the events of Season 2 and follows Joe Leaphorn (McClarnon) and Jim Chee (Gordon) as they investigate the disappearance of two boys, with only an abandoned bicycle and a blood-stained patch of ground left in their wake.

As for Bernadette Manuelito (Matten) who took a new job with the Border Patrol at the end of Season 2, it seems she’ll be stumbling across a conspiracy involving human and drug smuggling with far-reaching implications. It was also announced that Joe’s wife, Emma Leaphorn played by Deanna Allison who is a badass in her own right, will return for the season.
New Season Drops in 2025
Based on the series of detective novels by Tony Hillerman, Dark Winds was created for TV by Graham Roland. The series is executive produced by Roland, Wirth, McClarnon, Robert Redford, George R.R. Martin, Chris Eyre, Tina Elmo, Jim Chory, Vince Gerardis and Anne Hillerman. The showrunner for Dark Winds is John Wirth.
Dark Winds has found a solid following and is one of several series in recent years that have featured Native stories, including Reservation Dogs and Rutherford Falls. Unfortunately for fans of the show, we’re going to have to wait until 2025 to get back into the mystery. Until then Seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on AMC’s streaming app.
