The hunt is heating up on Dark Winds. In “The March,” Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) and Bernadette Manuelito (Jessica Matten) catch up to the blonde man, Colton Wolf (Nicholas Logan), which leads to more danger for Joe.

In the season opener, Joe and Berandette found the home of their suspect, only to be shot at multiple times. That suspect is Wolf. He heard the cops approaching and escaped his trailer through a door in the back. Joe didn’t see him come around to the front of the trailer until it was too late.

Bernadette ran through the trailer and out the door that Wolf escaped from. She and Joe end up in front of the trailer, but not before the blond man steals their truck. They shoot at him enough times to make him crash. By the time they find the truck, Wolf is gone. It’s their reservation, they know it better than anyone. Bernadette and Joe chase Wolf down and up a cliff. Wolf jumps off the cliff to escape and Joe jumps after him.

The next morning, Joe wakes up with a broken arm. He gets up and makes a sling from his bandana and hat band. He checks his gun and continues the chase. Joe finds some deep footsteps in the desert sand and follows them.

Bernadette goes back to the trailer to wait for Sheriff Gordo Sena (A. Martinez) and his men. She informs him of Joe’s pursuit and is pretty confident she knows where they are headed. She knows the landscape and requests to go with Sena. He’s not so sure, but allows her to go anyway. His men saddle up horses for their search. He tells Bernadette not to make him regret letting her ride along.

Wolf stops to rest. He drinks up his water and searches for any sign of Joe. He uses binoculars to look behind him, but doesn’t see anyone. At least until a dark figure races across his view. When he pulls down the binoculars, a boot kicks him in the head, knocking him out.  Joe ties up Wolf and waits for him to wake up. He has a rope tied around Wolf’s neck and pulls on him to get up and walk. Wolf knows it’s a three day walk and says they won’t make it. Joe doesn’t give in to the taunting and they start walking.

Back at home, Sally (Elva Guerra) and Emma (Deanna Allison) take the baby to the hospital for a checkup, but Sally waits in the waiting room. She thought Emma might be better at keeping the baby calm while the doctor examines him. Mary Landon (Jacqueline Byers) walks into the clinic and sits to chat with Sally.

Mary’s questions about Sally’s situation makes her cry. The reporter starts to ask Sally more questions, but stops and holds her hand instead. She quickly lets go when Emma emerges with the baby. Emma doesn’t like that she’s there and quickly takes Sally and the baby. Sally smiles at Mary before leaving the room.

Sally opens up to Emma later that night. She says she feels trapped because she didn’t want to have a baby. Not the way she had him and by the man who raped her. Sally is afraid that her son will feel ashamed for trapping her in this life. She’s afraid that she will always be angry about how he came to be. And he doesn’t deserve that. He doesn’t deserve to have a mother like her.

Bernadette gets a little pushback from Sena about the route they take through the desert. She knows the landscape enough to know which passages are shorter than others. Sena is just tired and sore from riding. As they get closer to their destination, Bernadette is more determined to find Joe. She rides ahead of Sena as it starts to snow.

Joe is slowing down and tells the blonde man that he’s able to keep going because he’s a sheepherder. The blonde man pulls at the rope, making Joe fall over on his broken arm. Joe lets go of the rope and Wolf runs away.

B.J. confronts Rosemary about Jim Chee. She says she was trying to help because the house is hers too. B. J. says it’s not. He inherited the house and money from his first wife, who inherited it from her father. Turns out, B.J.’s first wife was Rosemary’s sister. He tells Rosemary not to interfere with his business. Then he gives her a necklace that is engraved with the Latin word for faithful … to remind her.
