Marketing is starting to pick up for the much delayed Dark Phoenix. Likely the last in the current X-Men run, we have a brand new TV spot that shows Jean horrified by her new powers, but also loving it.
The teaser shows that after Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) was in an accident in space, an entity possessed her body. From that entity, she’s granted powers beyond her wildest imagination. Unfortunately for the X-Men and soldiers, she’d rather use them for ill purposes and kill everyone. Being bad feels good to this Jean as she fights against everyone. She’s even able to get the upper hand on Magento (Michael Fassbender), throwing him out a window will grinning.
If I’m being honest, I wish they didn’t attempt the Dark Phoenix story line again. It’s just too big of a story for one film. It’s also unfortunate that this is likely the last one in the series after the merger with Disney earlier this year. We currently don’t know what state the X-Men will take under the Mouse House but it’s very likely it won’t be related to these films at all. We’ll have to wait and see, however.
