Daredevil, the upcoming Marvel series out from Netflix, released a new promotional image this morning and there is a lot to get excited about in it.
The picture, at it’s core, is simply a picture of our titular vigilante fighting some ninjas, which we saw plenty of in Season One.
However, let’s dig in a little more.
First of all, his suit has more red to it than any of his previous incarnations, which is getting us one step closer to the suit that we see him wearing in the comics. Daredevil (Charlie Cox) also got the horns and, seriously, they look so good.
But let’s look even closer. He’s got his billy clubs and he’s using them as his primary weapon. He still refuses to kill people, which is why he doesn’t use bladed weapons, but in this picture he looks like he’s bringing an unholy smack down on these poor unsuspecting ninjas. Seeing him with his clubs here tells us that we’ll see him using these a lot more this season.
Perhaps the most exciting and most telling part of this image, however, is the fact that he is fighting ninjas at all. They could have had him fighting thugs or crooks or even Punisher or Elektra — but he’s fighting ninjas.
And, as we know from the trailer, these ninjas are The Hand — an ancient, mystical order of ninjas that ultimately want to control everything via the under world. They summon demons, they channel mystical energies and they are some of Daredevil’s longest standing enemies.
The very fact that it’s The Hand that they feature on this poster is exciting because, it says to us, that they will provide a very large part of the antagonism for this upcoming Second Season. And if that’s the case, than they are opening up the doors to the weirder side of the Marvel universe which will lead the way for characters like Iron Fist, Moon Knight and maybe even Ghost Rider.
