Daredevil’s Past
Daredevil aired for three seasons on Netflix starting in 2015. The series starred Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer who fought crime at night as the masked vigilante Daredevil. It was the first of Marvel’s Netflix series, followed by Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher and The Defenders.
After its cancellation in 2018, Marvel Studios teased the idea of a reboot, with Matt Murdock appearing in a few MCU properties. Cox reprised his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk, while Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin returned in Hawkeye and Echo.

Born Again
The trailer is the first real look at the new series. The show’s official logline reads: “Murdock (Cox), a blind lawyer with heightened abilities, fights for justice through his bustling law firm, while former mob boss Wilson Fisk (D’Onofrio) pursues his own political endeavors in New York. When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course.”
In addition to Cox and D’Onofrio, Daredevil: Born Again features a few familiar faces. Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson return as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, along with Jon Bernthal, Wilson Bethel and Ayelet Zurer. Newcomers include Michael Gandolfini, Kamar de los Reyes, Margarita Levieva, Zabryna Guevara, Arty Froushan and more.

Gaming the System
The trailer opens with Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk sitting down for a conversation at a diner. The two seem almost nostalgic for the old days, as Matt has retired from vigilante justice and is working happily with Karen and Foggy, while Fisk is officially Mayor of New York. Matt, however, doesn’t seem convinced. He states, “I can’t shake the feeling that you’re gaming the system.” The trailer cuts between their conversation and acts of violence by both parties, culminating in Matt getting beat up in a hallway, as he tends to do.
This is where things get interesting. We see Benjamin Poindexter (Bethel), aka Bullseye, tied up and escorted through a prison. Matt is held at gunpoint by what looks like bank robbers. Fisk and Vanessa (Zurer) toast next to a blood-spattered painting. New villains make an appearance, as well as familiar faces. Yes, that is Frank Castle attacking Matt with a hatchet. The trailer ends with an incredible line from Matt: “I was raised to believe in grace. But I was also raised to believe in retribution.”
Watch the Trailer
It’s clear from the trailer that Disney isn’t shying away from the gritty, violent tone of the original series. Bones are broken, faces are smashed and blood is everywhere. Despite this, there’s a real sense of joy in seeing these characters onscreen again.
Daredevil: Born Again will stream on Disney+ starting on March 4. Episodes will air weekly. Check out the trailer below, then let us know what you think we’ll see in the new series.
