Jon Bernthal as The Punisher on the Netflix Marvel shows.

According to The Hollywood Reporter,  Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, for the Marvel Cinematic Universe series Daredevil: Born Again

Born Again

Born Again will also feature Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, aka The Kingpin. Like Bernthal’s Punisher, both these actors originated their roles on Netflix’s Daredevil series. Daredevil and the other Netflix Marvel shows, which include Punisher and The Defenders, were produced by the now-defunct Marvel TV. However, the Netflix Marvel era concluded before the advent of Disney Plus.

Nevertheless, Punisher won’t be the first character to carry over to the MCU from the Netflix Marvel era. D’Onofrio previously reprised the role of Kingpin for a scene-stealing turn in Hawkeye, a Disney Plus series released in late 2021. Meanwhile, Cox’s Daredevil had a cameo on the big screen in December 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home and reprised the role again for several episodes of the 2022 streaming series She-Hulk. Before Born Again arrives, both Kingpin and Daredevil are confirmed to appear in the upcoming series Echo. This series will star Alaqua Cox as the eponymous hero with a history with Kingpin.

But while several major characters from the Netflix Marvel era are on their way, THR‘s article states that supporting actors Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page) and Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson) are not included on Born Again‘s roll call. Furthermore, there is no mention of whether or not characters from related shows like Jessica Jones are slated to return. This is a shame. The MCU’s wider legal world was introduced in She-Hulk. The time is ripe for characters like attorney Jeri Hogarth (Carrie-Ann Moss) and private investigator Jones (Krysten Ritter).

Born Again will be written and executive produced by Matt Corman and Chris Ord. The show is slated to be the longest Marvel streaming series yet, with an 18-episode arc planned. The series is set to stream on Disney Plus in the spring of 2024.
