Danai Gurira is quickly becoming the face of movie success. Fans of The Walking Dead have known for years just how talented this actress and playwright really is. And after the success of Marvel‘s Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, Hollywood is taking notice.

Gurira is in early talks for Legendary/Warner Bros. Godzilla vs. Kong, to be directed by Adam Wingard. The film is set to be released in May 2020 and has already cast Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) and Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2).

There are reports that Gurira is also being sought for the next Star Trek movie. Paramount and Bad Robot recently announced S. J. Clarkson would direct the next film, making it the first time a woman has directed in the franchise. Gurira would be following in the footsteps of former cast mate Sonequa Martin-Green, who joined the cast of Star Trek: Discovery after departing TWD

Leaving TWD?

All this is exciting news, but it makes any TWD fan wonder…is the beginning of the end for Michonne? Gurira was noticeably absent for most of the first half of season eight due to her filming schedule for Marvel, even though both franchises film in Georgia. Gurira has been a part of the TWD franchise since season two. With rumors of Andrew Lincoln‘s departure, fans have been speculating about Michonne’s fate. I doubt we’ll get an definitive answers anytime soon. For now, there is no change in Gurira’s The Walking Dead schedule.

I will be watching these stories closely. I love the character Michonne, and I would love to Gurira see in a Star Trek film.

Gurira will be in the upcoming Avengers 4 movie, scheduled for May 4, 2019. The Walking Dead season nine will premiere in October.
