Most of the Marvel presentation might have been a “behind close doors” type event during D23 Expo 2022, but they officially released the first trailer for Disney Plus and Marvel Studio’s special Werewolf By Night to the public. The horror-esque werewolf Halloween special is being directed by Michael Giacchino.

Much about Werewolf By Night has been kept very hush up until today. We knew a Halloween special was coming, that it was going to center around a character from the Werewolf by Night comic and that filming had wrapped up in March this year. The cast includes lead Gael García Bernal, Laura Donnelly, Harriet Sansom Harris, Eugenie Bondurant, and Jaycob Maya, among others.

The Werewolf By Night trailer introduces us to a completely different side of Marvel. It’s dark, gothic and spooky without feeling too much like a horror film. Much of the premise of the special is a race through the night as everyone struggles to uncover the truth and survive. The choice to shoot the film in black and white is a beautiful nod to scary movies of old that still hold a place in our hearts. Even the musical score screams old-school horror with updated technology.

It’s unclear if Werewolf By Night is going to be a stand-alone special for fun or if it is going to tie into the MCU. The supernatural elements, werewolves and the original comics’ ties with the Darkhold would allow the special to fit right in. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if this is how they introduce the Blade film that is coming next year. However, we wouldn’t be angry if they decide to leave this as its own.

Werewolf By Night is set to hit Disney Plus on October 7, 2022. Check out the trailer below. Do you love the black and white cinematography? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
