Marvel's Eternals

Marvel‘s Eternals cast is just getting bigger and better with the addition of Gemma Chan and Kit Harington, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was on hand at D23 to make the casting announcement and give the audience a preview of what the heroes will look like in their super suits.

Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh, Don Lee, Angelina Jolie, and the recently added Barry Koeghan  joined Feige onstage. Harington and Chan were not able to attend the con. Chan tweeted her excitement about returning to the MCU and working with this incredible cast.

Returns and Reunions

Chan played Kree warrior Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel earlier this year. She will be playing Sersi, daughter of Helios and Perse, and one of the most powerful characters in the Eternals comics. In addition to being super-strong, Sersi can rearrange molecular structures at a highly advanced level. She can manipulate cosmic energy, has mind control, flight, telekinesis, and teleportation. What can’t this woman do?

Harington just finished an epic run as Jon Snow on Game of Thrones this year.  He will reunite with this TV brother and another King of the North Madden in this film, The two have not shared the screen since GoT season one.  Harington will play Dane Whitman/Black Knight, who is not an Eternal. In the comics, Whitman inherits a cursed sword that makes him violent.  He has quite a few adventures with the Avengers that eventually led him to a romantic relationship with Sersi. Hmmmmm…every time I think of a Black Knight, I think of Monty Python.

Madden has been cast as Ikaris. He is the father of Icarus. You know Icarus, the Greek god who flew too close to the sun and died. Ikaris has taken his name for his lost son and has a variety of superpowers.

Chloe Zhao is directing the script written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo.  Feige is producing. The film is currently in production in London.

Marvel’s Eternals will debut in theaters on November 6, 2020.
